Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

This position is a 12 month, term appointment. The full-time position is part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education (SNAP-Ed) conducted by the University of Maryland Extension. The Healthy Start – Early Education Coordinator works to facilitate the development and growth of collaborations and wellness projects across the state of Maryland in early education settings. The position will be housed in the SNAP-Ed State Office in Columbia, MD.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Collaborate with state and local partners related to early education efforts to expand and enhance connections related to wellness within early education sites.
  • Partner with the Healthy School Communities Coordinator and assist in the development of new materials to expand education, technical assistance and training around policies, systems and environmental change at sites and across organizations.
  • Ensure developed materials meet the goals and objectives outlined in the SNAP-Ed proposal.
  • Assist in the training and development of training materials for SNAP-Ed educators and collaborators on SNAP-Ed materials.
  • Ensure the Policy, System and Environmental (PSE) efforts support and align with the direct education efforts occurring at Maryland SNAP-Ed sites to establish a comprehensive model.
  • Work collaboratively with the state office team to write the annual proposal.
  • Attend and contribute to Maryland SNAP-Ed staff development programs and regular communication with the statewide team including direct work with the SNAP-Ed Evaluation Team to develop and measure program impacts through data collection.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition, health education, early education, or a related field.

Experience:
  • Experience working with early education centers including preschool, head start, and/or JUDY centers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Applicants must be self-motivated, flexible, innovative, and resourceful with skills in conducting community-based education programs.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to an automobile for travel to sites across Maryland and to SNAP-Ed trainings.

  • Experience working with diverse community stakeholders.
  • Experience working with low-income audiences, including youth.

Additional Information:

Successful candidate is required to obtain a clear background check by the State of Maryland and the FBI.
