Job Description:

The University of Johannesburg invites suitably qualified individuals to apply for the position of Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accountancy.

The University of Johannesburg is actively recruiting for two Senior Lecturers in the Department of Accountancy. The Department of Accountancy is a nationally responsive leader in accounting education.

The applicants to this post are expected to support our Accounting programme by performing full academic duties that include teaching, postgraduate supervision, and research.

Responsibilities:

The incumbents will be expected to:

  • Have strong technical knowledge of the fields of IFRS Accounting.
  • Lecture Accounting at an undergraduate level.
  • Set tests, assignments and examination papers.
  • Encourage students' personal development through consultation and tutorials.
  • Invigilate tests and examinations.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings.
  • Contribute to general administration of the department and the college.
  • Attend and speak at conferences and seminars.
  • Write research proposals and conduct research in order to produce at least one accredited research output per year.
  • Be involved with professional, national and international bodies/boards that are related to his/her discipline.
  • Participate in community engagement.
  • Be able to conduct and publish high-quality research.

Minimum requirements

  • A Chartered Accountant registered with SAICA – CA(SA).
  • A relevant Honour’s degree or equivalent on NQF 8 level.
  • Sound knowledge of IFRS.
  • Previous experience in teaching and research in Accounting at undergraduate University level.
  • Appropriate practical experience.
  • Proven ability to think critically, analytically, and laterally across disciplines and sectors (transdisciplinary).
  • Fluent in written and oral English communication.


Recommendations:

  • A relevant masters or PhD degree (NQF 9/10 level), whichever is appropriate.
  • An excellent record of academic performance in subject disciplines and professional examinations.
  • Proven ability to conduct research.
  • Research experience in relevant subject disciplines.
  • Experience in supervising postgraduate students.
