At the American Heart Association (AHA) we believe one life lost is too many. With proper hypertension management, we can save lives. A reduction of 5mmHg in blood pressure can reduce risk of heart disease death by 9% and stroke death by 14%.

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Project Coordinator, Community Impact within our Western States Region located in Lynwood, Washington.The position will support our Stop the Silent Killer project and provide administrative/logistical support to help us achieve our health impact goals in South Snohomish. This is a grant-supported, part-time position with an anticipated duration through June 2023 offering a variable schedule of 10 hours per week.

The Stop the Silent Killer project aims to reduce high blood pressure by helping patients in South Snohomish have the knowledge and resources needed to understand, track, and control their high blood pressure. To do this, we will work with Sea Mar Community Health Center in Lynnwood and the Stroke Center at Swedish Edmonds to develop self-monitoring blood pressure protocols for their patients, while engaging a subset in high-touch opportunities to improve their health. The AHA will work with the Sea Mar and Swedish teams to ensure patients with high blood pressure are identified, provided information on lifestyle improvements and home-monitoring, and are given the opportunity to access a home blood pressure monitor, education on how to use it, and an education and engagement series to help them enact lifestyle changes and reduce their blood pressure. Simultaneously, we will address nutrition insecurity as a barrier to healthy blood pressure by connecting patients with more produce and healthy food resources. This will include a produce “prescription” to the Lynnwood Food Bank as well as Safeway produce vouchers for some participants.

Responsibilities:

Coordination and Evaluation:
  • Project management overall, communicating between collaborating organizations
  • Participation in design and implementation
  • Track outcome data and facilitate quarterly reports
  • Seek feedback from organizational partners and participants
Health Education and Referral Systems:
  • Finalize outline of virtual health education program and facilitate program throughout the year
  • Identify potential partnerships and make introductions
  • Develop and troubleshoot on systems to make food referrals between programs
  • Assist in the design of healthy food box “produce prescriptions”
Communication:
  • Ensures transparent communication within AHA team and collaborating organizations

Qualifications:

  • Curious and quick learner willing to dig for answers through online and other means
  • Comfortable with virtual work environment and technology, as well as in-person visits within Lynnwood, WA
  • Proficient written and basic visual presentation ability
  • Able to synthesize data and postulate on results
  • Management of complicated projects across teams
  • Participates in AHA team events as mutually agreed upon

  • Clinical/BP experience, food security/nutrition background
  • Knowledge of AHA’s mission and programs
  • Accessible to AHA staff and volunteers as appropriate
  • Abides by the AHA Ethics Policy
