Job Location: Arkansas City Main Campus - Arkansas City, KS


Position Type : Full Time

Education Level : Master's Degree (preferred)

Job Summary:

The Adult Education Instructional Staff is responsible for coordination and facilitation of curriculum and instruction that meets basic academic needs and workplace skills. Instructors are responsible for direct instruction of the basic academic skills to all students enrolled in the program. Instructors are responsible for maintaining and submitting student data to the program director.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the development and facilitation of the Adult Education curriculum.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe learning environment where adult students feel welcome and comfortable to work towards their goals.
  • Responsible for following the Adult Education Teacher Competencies.
  • Responsible for administering Adult Education assessments to all students, including but not limited to, AO-K, Career to Work, ABE, GED, corrections, and college students.
  • Responsible for managing paperwork and data entry, providing reports regarding test scores, goals, progress, and following up after exit with students.
  • Work with staff to provide program orientation for new students.
  • Maintain professional development and trainings as required by all working partners (i.e. KBOR, KDOC, and Cowley).
  • Attend all staff development meetings and recommended conferences.
  • Adhere to all KDOC and Cowley policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the planning of the GED graduation ceremony and reception.
  • Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.
  • Must maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees, students, vendors and/or any other representatives of external organization.
  • Be knowledgeable and keep abreast of ABE/GED/Corrections Education developments and curriculum
  • Assist the program director in program planning and development.
  • Assume all other related duties as assigned by the Adult Education Program Director.
  • Assist the Adult Education Program Director as needed.

Required Education Background:

  • Bachelors Degree in Education or related field.
  • Masters Degree preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to organize, coordinate and work effectively within a team approach.
  • Good interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to have an interest and empathy for people from a diverse background and culture.
  • Strong English language skills (spelling, word usage and meaning, etc.)
  • Computer literate (basic understanding of windows environment and MS Office products.)
  • Excellent oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to relate and work well with others.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of three years experience in teaching and /or related field.

Physical Requirements:

With or without assistance: ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to move freely around campus and other locations; ability to communicate both in person and by telephone; ability to speak clearly; mental capacity to make decisions and follow through with directions; ability to follow safety and security practices; ability to lift up to 20 pounds; ability to bend, stoop, reach and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to perform keyboard functions.

Work Environment:

  • Work performed in an office environment.
