The postdoctoral scholar is responsible for independent and collaborative development, implementation, and analysis of scientific research in the discipline of marine fisheries science. Responsibilities include management of all aspects of biological, environmental, and socioeconomical time series data from North Carolina. The postdoc will also conduct a synthesis analysis (e.g., multivariate statistics) using a variety of time series data related to decadal scale changes in factors that are relevant to North Carolina fisheries. Duties include: hypothesis development, literature review, collection of pilot data, report writing, overseeing data collection procedures, review of data for quality control, supervision of data entry/data analysis, analysis of research hypothesis using descriptive and multivariate statistics, and the development of independent and collaborative presentations and publications. Scholars are expected to demonstrate compliance with established guidelines and regulatory standards for research including biosafety, responsible conduct of research and human subjects training.
Approximately 100% of the postdoctoral scholar’s time will be devoted to acquiring publicly available data and conducting quality control and data cleaning. Analyzing time series data. Summarizing analyses in report format and for publication.
Approximately 0% of the postdoctoral scholar’s time will be devoted to managing the day-to-day activity of undergraduate and graduate research students in the laboratory.

Minimum Education/Experience
English Proficiency.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
A PhD in one of these (or related) fields: Ecology, fisheries science, biostatistics, marine sciences
(PhD, MD, DDS, DMD or a combination of these degrees)

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
NA

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Experience with marine fisheries and ecosystems in North Carolina; Use of marine biological survey data, in particular surveys conducted in North Carolina; Advanced statistical modeling experience in the R computing environment; Time series analysis; Collaborations with a diverse team of researchers.

License or Certification Required by the Department
