JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Center for Childhood Obesity Research (https://hhd.psu.edu/ccor ) within the College of Health and Human Development at Penn State, invites applications for a Research Project Manager to join our dynamic team. The overall mission of the Center for Childhood Obesity Research (CCOR) is to conduct interdisciplinary research that contributes to the evidence base needed to inform successful childhood obesity prevention programs that can then be disseminated to public health and clinical practice audiences.
The successful candidate will oversee multiple experimental, observational, and longitudinal research studies and outreach activities for children and families, requiring strong project management and leadership experience.?
Primary responsibilities include:
Providing overall management and leadership of the Center’s multiple research and outreach projects
Collaborating with the Center director on strategic planning and long-term goals of the Center
Developing and maintaining partnerships with community organizations, outreach partners, and recruitment sites
Overseeing the design, development, and coordination of study protocols, interventions, and data collection procedures
Developing proposals, research plans, statements of work, budgets, standard operating procedures, and IRB applications
Developing and maintaining appropriate compliance documents and reports as required by University and funding agencies
Collaborating on grant proposals, manuscripts, reports, presentations, and other scientific deliverables
Interacting with research/outreach participants, collecting data, and delivering interventions
Hiring, training, and supervising research staff, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students and undergraduate research assistants for successful execution and completion of projects
Communicating and forming relationships with diverse stakeholders to understand project requirements, goals, and risks/barriers to project success ?
Developing and implementing quality improvement practices and process
Education and Experience:
This position typically requires a Master’s degree or higher plus 4 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A degree in Public Health, Biobehavioral Health, Nutrition, Psychology, Human Development, or a related field is required/preferred. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher-level jobs.
Preferred experience includes:
Proficient and comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures related to this position
Proven experience in successfully collaborating within diverse interdisciplinary social, behavioral, or health sciences teams
Significant experience with research project management
Experience with research regulatory agencies (e.g. IRB, NIH)
Effective management of study teams
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
Highly organized and ability to multi-task as projects are varied
Meticulous attention to detail
Ability to establish effective relationships with others
High level of self-direction, motivation and personal accountability, and ability to identify and solve problems independently
Use of diplomacy and effective decision-making to manage multiple competing priorities and perspectives
Additional Information:
This position may occasionally require work on weekends and evenings. This is a limited-term position funded for one year from the date of hire with an excellent possibility for renewal.
