Associate Director for Clinical and In Vivo Research Services

Job Description

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR CLINICAL AND IN VIVO RESEARCH SERVICES, Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM), to serve as attending veterinarian for and leader of animal services within DCM.  Will aid the director of DCM with formulating and maintaining its clinical mission, take primary responsibility for managing and coordinating the implementation of this mission, and aid the director in outreach to and identification of new opportunities in animal research for MIT researchers. Will join twelve other veterinarians and fifteen-plus veterinary technicians in providing the very best in animal care and collaborative research support; and become an integral part of an established comparative medicine training program providing training to veterinarians and veterinary students in research, laboratory animal medicine, and comparative pathology. Opportunities for collaborative and/or independent research will be encouraged.  DCM serves as the primary resource for the care, development, and refinement of animal models at MIT and cares for a variety of species, including mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, swine, zebrafish, zebra finches, tree shrews, marmosets, and macaques, and includes transgenic (mouse and nonhuman primate) and germ-free facilities.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: DVM or equivalent (i.e., VMD) from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school or an equivalent degree (i.e., BVSc) from an AVMA-listed school with ECFVG certification; license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state; formal training in comparative medicine with diplomate status in the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine European College of Laboratory Animal Medicine, or DACLAM certification without formal residency training at least six years’ experience working as a veterinarian in a research setting; and ability to work as part of a team. PREFERRED: two years’ management experience and experience collaborating with researchers and mentoring students.  Job #21771
