Job Description


A postdoctoral scholar "postdoc" is an individual holding a doctoral degree who is engaged in a temporary and defined period, typically less than 5 years, of mentored research and/or advanced scholarly training for the purpose of acquiring the professional skills needed to pursue a career path of his/her choosing. Performs research under the supervision and mentorship of a more senior researcher, often called the postdoctoral advisor.
Specifically, this role will work for a Primary Investigator (PI) whose laboratory focuses on identifying and testing drugs for preventing hearing loss. You will utilize a wide range of techniques including high-throughput cell-based screenings, ex-vivo cochlear explant cultures, molecular assays and animal models.  The department strives to develop drugs that will prevent hearing loss caused by cisplatin chemotherapy, noise and aging and in the process, improve our understanding of the molecular mechanisms governing cell death in the inner ear cells.  Strong background in molecular biology, pharmacology or biochemistry and previous published work are required.
This position is 100% grant funded.
 
This position will work Monday to Friday; 8am-4:30pm, depending upon research needs position may call for evening, weekend, and holiday work. 
 


Qualifications:
Doctorate Degree;
1-3 years' experience; strong background in molecular biology, pharmacology or biochemistry and previous published work are required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Strong ability to interpret data and to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues;
Strong work ethic;
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to work independently;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel; PowerPoint and Outlook;
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays depending upon research needs
