POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Announcement is hereby made for a full-time, 12-month Assistant Director of Infrastructure Services position beginning immediately. Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs.

This is a Guild (Unit 4) position, and, as such, the salary and benefits for this position are determined according to the salary and benefits plan for the Guild of Administrative Officers.

Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Infrastructure Services is responsible for providing leadership and technical direction to the communications infrastructure for Suffolk County Community College. Core responsibilities include researching, implementing, and introducing modern technologies to leadership, as well as recommending technology solutions that align with the college’s strategic vision. This role will provide project delivery oversight and lead the design, configuration, implementation, delivery, and maintenance of the college’s Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) environment. This team is also responsible for all services related to the communications system including servers, voicemail, conference systems, and call queues. Specific duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Assist the Administrative Director of Infrastructure Services by providing planning and status information on the college’s VoIP infrastructure, including recommendations for future growth in the convergence of voice, data, and video networks to support new and growing academic initiatives.
  • Manage projects related to voice systems, cabling plant, and emergency alerting as well as oversee the staff in these areas to ensure the systems remain relevant and meet the needs of the institution.
  • Responsible for aligning the operations of the technical division in Information Technology with the strategic vision of the senior executives by researching and recommending forward-thinking, innovative technology solutions to advance the college.
  • The Assistant Director will lead team members and provide evaluation and performance feedback to staff.
  • Responsible for enterprise-wide engineering and support of the VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) system in a multi-campus environment.
  • This position will lead team members in the mission of the department, the overall IT structure, and the college.
  • Provide guidance/consultation regarding computer operations.
  • Management of the power systems sustaining the voice systems.
  • Management of the voice data center and virtual environment.
  • Possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.
  • Maintain and report on day-to-day operations of the campus network closets including the coordination and review of upgrades, documentation of network infrastructure, and identification and analysis of equipment and electrical needs along with understanding the growth of the college’s educational network.
  • Assist with management of the installation and relocation of equipment supporting the network, and/or end-user equipment as directed including switches, routers, servers, telephones, and digital signage on both the academic and administrative networks.
  • Planning and design of communications systems to include video conferencing, content delivery systems and emergency alerting systems.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing of college-wide telephone and network systems or devices.
  • Work with campus leaders and college leaders to ensure classrooms and office space needs are met regarding connectivity, voice, and delivery.
  • All other duties assigned by the Administrative Director of Infrastructure Services.
  • This position may require some evening and weekend work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of professional experience supporting telecommunication systems.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Virtual Ware systems.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, have excellent customer service skills, and be able to work collegially and effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated skills with project management and cabling plant.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • 5 years of experience maintaining and administering VoIP systems
  • 5 years of experience working in a higher education environment
  • A project management certification

HIRING SALARY:

Salary will be determined according to placement on the management salary scale negotiated by the Guild of Administrative Officers
