Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Associate Director for the Aim Fellows Program of The Office of the Rutgers-New Brunswick Chancellor-Provost. The Aim Fellows Program is a new cohort-based undergraduate program designed to promote student self-discovery. The Associate Director serves as the “navigator” for a cohort of undergraduate students, connecting them to existing university resources and programs as well as designing cohort-specific experiences and programming that facilitate the discovery of their own talents, visions, and goals. The Associate Director is responsible for directing and managing all aspects of the Aim Fellows experience with input from the Rutgers University Foundation, the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE), and the Undergraduate Education Leadership Team. The Associate Director will support the VPUE and Chancellor-Provost’s overall mission, strategic plan, and goals.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Advises students in choosing a curriculum and major that is tailored to their strengths and aspirations, in collaboration with school advising protocols.
  • Directs student cohort towards resources to support their academic progress.
  • Holds regular cohort check -in meetings and activities; meets with individual cohort members weekly as a touch base – connects to check in on social, emotional, mental health as well as academic areas.
  • Develops relationships and manages communication with campus/external partners to support organizational and need-based queries, ensuring timely, accurate, and up-to-date information to connect students to resources.
  • Partners with each student to co-design an exceptional experience outside the classroom, such as internships, service learning opportunities, research assistantships and study abroad experiences.
  • Coordinates the recruitment and selection process for the fellows in consultation with the Rutgers University Foundation, the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, and the Undergraduate Education Leadership Team.
  • Plans and administers events/programs to support the recruitment and retention of Aim Fellows, and advance programmatic objectives.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of student-focused program coordination.
  • A minimum of five years experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience working with access and/or student service programs, advising, and/or admissions outreach.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to handle multiple, shifting priorities. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.), database management, learning management systems, video/calls/conferencing, and email applications.
  • Social media and marketing experience, including Instagram, LinkedIn, Slack, Mailchimp, and Canva.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse intersections of student populations, as relevant to diversity and inclusion and educational equity practices.
  • Successful applicants will be highly motivated individuals who are well-versed in advising and mentoring approaches that promote self-discovery and emphasize well-being and a sense of belonging.
  • Ability to coach and mentor others, to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for learning, and to assist with targeted efforts in support of the unit Diversity Strategic Plan.
  • Intellectual curiosity, an interest in exploring new learning tools and ideas, and superior multi-tasking and strategic planning abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates with a master’s degree or higher is a plus.
  • Experience in an administrative/academic discipline, academic advising, student development, public administration, education policy, counseling, or related field.
  • Experience with Canvas and Qualtrics.
