Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Physician Specialist, Per Diem for the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The primary purpose of the Physician Specialist is to provide general clinical services and is responsible for preventive medicine, diagnosis and treatment of acute illnesses, treatment and stabilization of hospitalized patients and management of chronic conditions.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Studies, evaluates, diagnoses, and treats diseases of the human body related to the specialty of training, including acute exacerbation of chronic conditions, and comorbid conditions that lead to acute organ dysfunction.
  • Examines patients utilizing all types of medical equipment, instruments and follows the standard of care in treating hospitalized patients, including obtaining appropriate diagnostic tests and specialist consultations.
  • Prescribes and orders medicine and engages in research to and in control and care of disease.
  • Makes recommendations for treatment, therapeutic planning, and follow-up studies.
  • Serves as a consultant to other members of the staff on problems related to the medical specialty.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement

Rutgers University requires all new employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the employee a medical or religious exemption. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • MD or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of New Jersey.
  • Current DEA and CDS Registration
  • Three (3) years of approved specialty training.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification by the appropriate American Board, demonstrated competence in hospital practice and Credentials Committee or equivalent recommendation.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

  • Physical Demands: Ability to type and use a computer to enter in the Electronic Medical Records. Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position. The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position. The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, and your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, Can quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions. Frequently walks, bends, stretches, pushes and pulls. Intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities. Manual dexterity and mobility for charting (typing). Ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions. Ability to lift or exert up to 25 lbs.

  • Work Environment: Hospital setting. Ability to function in a fast paced environment and relate well to the patients’ staff and health care team members. Ability to handle emergency and crisis situations. Incumbent must exhibit flexibility to work in a variety of settings. Risk of body fluid exposure.
