Posting Summary
Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Library Supervisor I. Reporting to the Assistant Director, this position manages the law library, including circulation, interlibrary loans, government documents, digitization and all other library services on nights and weekends.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Maintains the schedule for both part- and full-time employees in the library evening and weekends.
  • Makes assignments to those employees.
  • Ensures the security, functionality, and availability of the library building, equipment, and library collections.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and strategic planning sessions and implements projects arising from those meetings.
  • Resolves operational and patron issues.
  • Ensures the functionality, and availability of equipment, such as scanners, printers, computers for the library collections.
  • Carries out routine and non-routine tasks with occasional review of work outputs by the Assistant Director.
  • Provides and maintains statistical analysis of data for annual reports.
  • Performs professional work that requires a working knowledge of legal research principles, practices and terminology, and applied bases of original cataloging and library operations including circulation and collection management.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge, understanding, and competency in library science/library operations including circulation, classification, original and copy cataloging and bibliographic systems, formats, rules, guidelines, and standards; plus a minimum of two (2) years experience performing supervisory and one or more library activities. Also requires good communication skills and computer literacy.

  • Library experience required, customer service skills, computer training

Preferred Qualifications
  • Law background preferred

  • ALMA, Excel, PowerPoint, Scanning software, working with copiers
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and push book trucks.
