Job Summary:
"A Postdoctoral Fellow (""""postdoc"""") will report to Professor Reitzel and will be a senior member of Professor Reitzel's research group, supporting projects through original research, collaboration with other team members, and co-mentoring of students.The employee?s principal research responsibilities will be training and research as part of a funded NSF project. The successful applicant will study genome variation and gene expression in coastal invertebrates native to the Persian/Arabian Gulf and the United States in the lab of Adam Reitzel at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. This work will primarily involve the generation and analysis of sequence data from collected individuals from their native habitats. The project will involve analysis of large data sets that will require use of the university?s HPC.Candidates for this position should have demonstrated experience in the assembly and analysis of short-read data (e.g., Illumina) or long-read data (e.g., Oxford Nanopore). The employee will confer with Professor Reitzel on overall research direction and strategy but will exercise a considerable amount of independent judgment and original thinking in carrying out research that contributes to original knowledge and advances the University?s reputation in research. The employee will publish research results, in collaboration with Professor Reitzel, in peer-reviewed journals. Minimum Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. in Biology, Bioinformatics or related discipline2. A strong experimental and computational background with evidence of these skills (e.g.,publications) related to the generation and analysis of high throughput sequence data.3. Optional: Previous research in molecular biology4. Optional. Previous research experience in the ecology and evolution of marine invertebrates, particularly cnidarians.
