Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching Pharmacology for Dental Hygiene (DEN200) to first year dental hygiene students. This course addresses the basic principles of pharmacology and anesthesiology and applies this knowledge to the treatment of dental hygiene patients. The course content includes the physical and chemical properties, preparations, and mode of administration of medications, and their effect on body systems, as well as reference to medical emergencies associated with dental treatment. Course is taught during the Spring 2023 Semester on Thursdays, 9:00-11:50 a.m.


Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's degree in Pharmacology or related field.
  2. Massachusetts Dental / Dental Hygiene License.
  3. Teaching experience in a college setting or equivalent.
  4. Excellent presentation skills.
  5. Ability to create a classroom environment that supports learning and student success.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Previous experience teaching Pharmacology in a community college setting.
  2. Broad knowledge of medical conditions, and their pharmacological treatments as well as the correlation between oral and systemic health and relevance to the practice of dental hygiene.
  3. Evidence of current teaching methodologies, including experiences with media, innovative use of evolving instructional technologies in the classroom, and the use of learning management systems such as Moodle.
  4. Skill in implementing active and collaborative learning strategies.
  5. Effective pedagogical, teaching and presentation skills.
  6. Experience using evidence-based strategies to support student success including frequent communication and active learning.

Additional Information:

COMPENSATION: Anticipated starting salary - Step I DCE Pay Scale. Part-time, non-benefited MCCC Unit Position. Compensation for course delivery will be in accordance with the DCE/MCCC Contract (Memorandum of Agreement, Distance Education).
