Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience; academic year (nine-month basis).
Anticipated start: July 1, 2023, with the academic year beginning in September 2023. All requirements must be met by June 30, 2023 for employment effective July 1, 2023.

Position description

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an Assistant Professor as part of the campus initiative in Global and Community Health. We are seeking candidates with research interests that complement department strengths in biochemistry, biophysical chemistry, structural biology, and chemical biology. In addition to these specific areas, we will consider all candidates who can make exceptional contributions to leadership in diversity, equity and inclusion and whose research interests fit within the broader subject areas encompassed by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Candidates will be expected to lead a vigorous externally funded research program, contribute to the intellectual vitality of the UC Santa Cruz scientific community, teach and mentor diverse students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and provide service and leadership to the campus and the international scientific community. Faculty will be expected to contribute to a growing research and curricular focus in global and community health, a new interdisciplinary program at UC Santa Cruz (transform.ucsc.edu/work/gch/).

The chosen candidate will be expected to sign a statement representing that they are not the subject of any ongoing investigation or disciplinary proceeding at their current academic institution or place of employment, nor have they in the past ten years been formally disciplined at any academic institution/place of employment. In the event the candidate cannot make this representation, they will be expected to disclose in writing to the hiring Dean the circumstances surrounding any formal discipline that they have received, as well as any current or ongoing investigation or disciplinary process of which they are the subject. (Note that discipline includes a negotiated settlement agreement to resolve a matter related to substantiated misconduct.)

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

A Ph.D. in a field related to chemistry or biochemistry and at least one year of postdoctoral research experience.
