Description

The Townsend Lab in the Department of Forest & Wildlife Ecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has an opening for a 2-year postdoctoral position focused on using remote sensing and a network of trailcams to characterize wildlife biodiversity at regional scales, available immediately. The postdoctoral research assoicate will be funded on a NASA-funded collaboration with Drs. Ryan Pavlick and Fabian Schneider at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. This project -- called BioCube -- is supported by the NASA Biodiversity Program and is focused on developing a remote sensing framework to estimate animal diversity at the statewide scale through the combination of remote sensing data from multiple sources and trailcam data from Snapshot Wisconsin. The objective is to understand animal community variation and behavior in space and time at broad scales, using metrics from a remote sensing BioCube. This biodiversity data cube (BioCube) uses a wide range of remote sensing data including from new hyperspectral, lidar, solar-induced fluorescence, and thermal satellite missions to represent six major dimensions of biodiversity observable from space-- canopy structure, physiology, phenology, function, composition and environmental covariates.
