Executive Director

The Dispute Resolution Center (DRC) of Yakima and Kittitas Counties seeks a qualified and committed individual to fill the position of Executive Director beginning.

The Executive Director guides the tone of the DRC and effectively articulates and implements its vision and direction with an emphasis on equity: justice, gender, racial, and cultural equity. The Executive Director leads fundraising efforts, including grant writing and contract creation, and builds and maintains strategic and healthy partnerships—law enforcement, legislators, and other community leaders, among others—that can assist the DRC in reaching its goals. The Executive Director is the primary face of the DRC to the public and its primary spokesperson, advocating for state and local programs.

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall administration and supervision of personnel, volunteers, finances, development, and overall funding. The Executive Director directs program development, managing development from inception to implementation. The Executive Director cultivates a collaborative workplace and empowers staff to lead and coordinate program activities with other community agencies.

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors through the President of the Board, is an ex officio meber of the Board and works closely with the Board members to set the direction of the DRC.

COMPENSATION: The Executive Director will receive a salary commensurate with the responsibilities of the job. Ranged between $80,000 and $95,000, the annual salary will be determined based on experience and expertise.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Board Governance

  • Work with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans for the DRC.

Financial Viability

  • Develop and execute financial plans necessary to implement the vision.
  • Maintain budget and fiscal records.
  • Direct overall reporting requirements of the agency, including overseeing paper and computer files, ensuring timely reporting to funding sources, government agencies, and the DRC.
  • Review and approve contracts for services in accordance with DRC policies.
  • Write and submit grant applications and prepare grant reports.

Organizational Mission and Strategy

  • Articulate and implement the vision and direction of the DRC.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the community and to the mission of the DRC.
  • Demonstrate an ability to promote a shared vision intended to address challenges and create opportunities, especially in the areas of volunteer recruitment and retention, and fundraising.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring goals and objectives for the DRC.
  • Maintains a relationship with statewide non-governmental organizations: Resolution Washington and Washington Mediation Association.

Organizational Operations

  • Write and manage grants; manage program contracts with city, county, and state agencies.
  • Lead donor development with the Board.
  • Supervise personnel and volunteers.
  • Ensure the daily operations of the DRC are conducted in accordance with all DRC and required state/federal policies.
  • Expand the DRC’s visibility in the community by effectively cultivating and maintaining relationships with community groups, District Court, and Superior Court.
  • Oversee and participate in mediator training.
  • Perform outreach activities, including public speaking, media contacts, and general public relations.
  • Occasionally co-mediate a case or observe a mediation.
  • Oversee and develop special projects, programs, and workshops.

Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Knowledge of: Non-profit management and organization; principles of supervision and training; strategic planning; successful practices and systems supporting fundraising in the non-profit sector; conflict resolution; mediation.

Skills in: Leadership and management, oral and written communication, team building and personnel management, implementation of programs and working with community groups, working with diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds, working with volunteers, developing and nurturing financial support for a non-profit, and working with a diverse Board.

Ability to: Direct, supervise, and empower personnel and volunteers; inspire staff and work with them collaboratively in making decisions and reaching goals; communicate effectively inside and outside the DRC; cultivate relationships and trust with people who can help the DRC financially; make difficult decisions when faced with competing demands and limited resources; develop and articulate realistic yet ambitious goals for the DRC.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Specific, relevant experience, attitudes and commitments, and education; experience in increasingly senior positions in the non-profit sector or comparable leadership positions in another relevant field; a successful record of leadership with proven results.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with mediation training and Spanish/English bilingual or multilingual capabilities.
  • Experience in writing grants and submitting successful proposals.
  • Experience with collaborative leadership and decision-making. Experience in conflict management, with a focus on restorative justice and peacekeeping.
