The Center for Workforce Development (CWD) at William James College seeks applications from highly-qualified individuals for the position of Associate Director of Program Development. In this role, the Associate Director will oversee several behavioral health workforce development projects for the CWD, with a focus on the recruitment, training, and retention of individuals from historically excluded and underserved communities. The successful candidate must be able to multitask, collaborate with various stakeholders, plan effectively, supervise team members, manage project budgets, prepare progress reports, and consistently achieve program goals. The Associate Director will conceptualize and lead systemic approaches to reducing disparities and opportunity gaps in academic and workplace settings, blending a working knowledge of applied research, high-quality practices, and effective community engagement strategies to develop career ladder and professional development trainings for underrepresented groups. The Associate Director will work collaboratively with the CWD’s administrative team to set goals for the CWD’s growth, develop concrete strategies to meet those goals, and oversee the implementation of all workforce-related programs. This is a full-time position for a doctoral-level candidate with a background in program development, program management, community-based partnerships, supervision, and training as well as administrative and direct care experience with underserved populations. The Associate Director of Program Development will report to the Associate Vice President for Workforce Initiatives & Specialty Training.

Essential Functions

  • Administer all aspects of workforce development projects, from inception to execution, and ensure that program objectives are carried out on time and within budget.
  • Participate in strategic planning meetings to manage program growth and ensure sustainability.
  • Review and recommend changes in program services to meet emerging needs, with a particular focus on workforce development initiatives for underserved populations.
  • Seek funding for new workforce development initiatives that are aligned with the mission of the CWD and the College.
  • Collaborate with other departments and staff at WJC to facilitate the implementation of innovative and culturally responsive workforce development programs for underserved communities.
  • Build partnerships with city, state, and national leaders and organizations to identify and implement best practices to diversify the behavioral health workforce.
  • Work with the CWD management team to ensure successful communication and coordination between CWD program staff, faculty, and other stakeholders.
  • Identify key objectives, tasks, and projects; and plan, schedule, and strategize about program goals.
  • Conceptualize and lead the implementation of professional learning opportunities for students, practitioners, educators, and community-based partners.
  • Supervise CWD project staff, students, and other team members.
  • Participate in grant writing activities that advance new ideas for program development
  • Create budgets, guidelines, and other business-related documents for the CWD.
  • Lead presentations on workforce development topics at meetings, seminars, and conferences.
  • Publish reports, articles, and papers about the work of the CWD.
  • Ensure compliance with funding agency guidelines and timelines, as appropriate.
  • Plan and implement strategies to ensure compliance with academic policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties, as required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related behavioral health field.
  • Currently licensed as a behavioral health provider in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of three years of experience providing direct care services to individuals, families, or groups from historically excluded and underserved communities.
  • Minimum of two years of leadership experience in an academic or community-based setting.
  • Strong interest in managing workforce development programs for culturally diverse populations.
  • Ability to enact values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in program and organizational activities.
  • Excellent project management, business acumen, and strategic planning skills.
  • Experience with evidence-based and culturally informed behavioral health practices.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse constituents, including internal departments, external partners, and community-based agencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to lead, supervise, and evaluate staff; and create and sustain strong teams.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and public speaking skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to work independently, along with the judgment to seek supervision and input from others, when necessary.
  • Skilled at creating, analyzing, and managing program budgets.
  • Experience with grant writing and fundraising activities.
  • Proficient at using technology in project management processes, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Qualtrics, Zoom, and other web-based tools.
  • Ability to adapt to the culture of a mission-drive, fast-paced academic environment.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
