Postdoctoral Fellow in Immunology, Boston University (22599929940822)

Boston University

Job Description

The Boston University Pulmonary Center, Bosmann Laboratory is recruiting Postdoctoral Fellows for projects on Innate Immunity of Infections.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), pneumonia and sepsis are life-threatening complications of microbial infections with profound disturbances of the immune system. In the current absence of definitive treatment options, ARDS and sepsis represent an enormous problem for health systems worldwide. Our laboratory is dedicated to obtain a better mechanistic understanding of the molecular pathogenesis of bacterial, viral and parasitic infections towards the evaluation of new therapeutic targets. Please see our recent publication in Nature Communications. 2020 Aug 12;11(1):4035 . We are especially interested in novel genes for which several genetically engineered mouse strains were generated by our laboratory.

We are looking for highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellows with outstanding career potential to promote our experimental and translational research. Special areas of interest are the role and structure of novel genes involved in inflammation, pathogen recognition, host-pathogen interactions, macrophages, neutrophils, cytokines, and related signaling pathways. Pathogens of interest are Legionella spp., S. pneumoniae, E. coli, N. brasiliensis, SARS-CoV-2, Influenza and others. The projects will be tailored to meet the individual qualifications and interests of the trainee.

We are especially interested in candidates with prior experiences in experimental immunology, mouse models of infection, innate immunity, and transcriptomics/proteomics.

The projects will involve a broad spectrum of immunology methods together with opportunities for transcriptomics (scRNA-Seq, TOTAL-Seq) and (phospho-)proteomics. The data analysis will be supported by an experienced Bioinformatician in our team. Another area of interest is genome editing by RNA-guided nucleases (CRISPR-Cas9) for genome wide single-cell screens.
