  • A highly motivated and skilled researcher in cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying cancer.
  • Projects currently address (i) how tumor microenvironmental cytokines, particularly those that regulate the JAK/STAT pathway, influence cancer cell programming (stem-like/mesenchymal phenotypes, drug resistance, migratory/invasive potential) and anti-tumor immunity; (ii) gene discovery and drug discovery for inducers of cancer cell differentiation and anti-tumor immunity; and (iii) proteins/pathways that regulate resistance to immune checkpoint inhibitors (anti-PD-L1 and anti-CTLA4).
  • The qualified candidate will have experience using tissue culture (cell growth analysis, migratory assays, invasion assays), molecular biology techniques (including flow cytometry, PCR, western blot, cell growth, etc), and in vivo studies using mice.
  • Candidate will participate in manuscript and grant writing, co-author research projects and provide data to the principal investigator for sponsor progress reports, manuscripts, grant and pilot applications

II. TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Experience in animal models of breast cancer, including both immune-competent and immune-compromised is highly desirable. This includes performing mouse xenograft experiments (mammary gland transplantation, tail-vein injections, sub-cutaneous injection) using genetically-modified cancer cell lines generated in accordance with research goals. Ability to record and analyze time-course data from xenograft core facility for therapy resistance/response studies.
  • Experience with assessing cultured cells or cells isolated from mice that may involve tissue dissociation and FACS to isolate individual cell populations and flow cytometry, PCR, cell culture, western blot, cell growth analysis, migratory assays, invasion assays, ELISAs, etc. on the isolated materials is highly desierable.
  • Experience with RNA-Seq/DNA-Seq/other -omics protocols and data analysis is preferred, but not required.

III. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help with supervising laboratory technicians and student trainees in experimental design and data analysis of a variety of projects.

IV. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Pathology (or closely-related biomedical research field).
  • Prior experience in cancer research is preferred.
  • A background in cancer research is highly preferred.
  • The successful candidate must have strong analytical, oral and written communication skills.
