NRDC is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our people helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our team of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and the globe from our offices in Bozeman, Montana; Chicago; New York; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Washington, D.C.; and Beijing.

NRDC is seeking an Employee Experience Specialist to work with the Human Resources team in our New York office.

Position Summary

NRDC is seeking an Employee Experience Specialist to work with the Human Resources team in our New York City office. The Employee Experience Specialist will be mapping out vital employee experience touchpoints, organizing resources, events and/or sessions to support a positive employee experience, and will be an important point of contact for the employee experience and talent development team at NRDC. We are looking for a dynamic self-starter, someone comfortable in front of an audience and is a consummate relationship builder.


  • Leads efforts in ensuring an engaging and positive onboarding experience for new employees
  • Leads and coordinates new hire orientation
  • Conducts new joiners’ surveys and compiles data to develop insights on the new employee experience
  • Collaborates with HR colleagues, employees, and leaders to build a culture of positive employee experience
  • Implements assigned employee experience initiatives and leverages current programs to drive and support specific aspects of engagement
  • Develops initiatives and methods to drive, enhance, and measure engagement.
  • Develops metrics, surveys and insightful analytics around onboarding, new hire engagement and general employee engagement. Conducts and reports on organizational engagement survey, including supporting administration and delivering on improvement plans.
  • Conceives, plans, and implements a rewards and recognition program for employees
  • Analyzes data and identifies key insights to make improvements.
  • Interfaces with external vendors to ensure delivery of contracted services in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Partakes in the annual employee review process and follows up on communicating specific deadlines and build momentum around the process.
  • Committed to building a career in human resources as demonstrated via career progression to date, expertise, and / or the pursuit or attainment of an HR certification (SHRM-CP / SCP or PHR / SPHR).
  • Able to ask the right questions, gather relevant information and craft tailored solutions that balance the needs of multiple stakeholders.
  • Comfortable exercising independent judgment and critical thinking in a continuously evolving environment.
  • Committed to execution excellence; accurate and detail-oriented, with a sense of pride in the final product.
  • Well-organized and able to prioritize across multiple issues.
  • Comfortable switching between working collaboratively as part of a team and working autonomously as needed.


  • Commitment to NRDC’s mission and values.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with the CultureAmp® employee experience platform is highly desirable.
  • Data analytics and reporting certification highly desirable.

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits , and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. For this position, the salary is $80,000 to $90,000. Internal equity considerations will be reviewed before making a final offer.
Since March 2020, NRDC’s offices have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You will be associated with one of our offices, but until circumstances allow us to re-open, we will continue to support NRDCers with remote working arrangements.
