The Director of Financial Analysis is responsible for comprehensive management of the Law School’s financial resources. This position is responsible for planning and managing the annual operating budget, overseeing a detailed quarterly forecasting process, and leading in the development of dynamic and accurate financial modeling and projections for leadership. The Director will be a strategic partner for the Law School’s budget managers, the Dean and Senior Leadership Team, and will be a leader in financial policies and best practices for the school.

Specific Responsibilities:

Budget:

  • Direct and plan the stand-alone budget model for Law School’s $100M operating budget, including recommending and implementing budget parameters, establishing procedure for units to submit formal budget requests, and meeting with Senior Leadership and the Dean to evaluate and prioritize requests.
  • Oversee all key elements of Law School operating budget, including preparing detailed enrollment projections for tuition and financial aid with Admissions office, setting endowment and gift revenue projections with Alumni Relations and Development team, managing Law School faculty and staff compensation budgets in close collaboration with peer Director of Faculty Affairs and Director of Human Resources. Develops and recommends Non-Personnel Expense budget parameters for 70+ funding units based upon those provided by the Budget Office, as well as Law School-specific parameters that may be required based on comprehensive understanding of the school’s financial position & forecasting model.
  • Manage development of 3-5 year budgeting projections based on enrollment targets, hiring plans, and strategic initiatives.

Analysis, Statements & Reporting:

  • Implement accurate, effective, and efficient financial reporting and ensure Law School reporting aligns with Central University standards.
  • Responsible for Law School consolidated income statement and balance sheet, including performing detailed reconciliations in both numerical and narrative format for each annual budget and quarterly forecast process.
  • Drive continuous improvement with respect to financial analysis, forecasting, modeling and reporting.

Financial Operations:

  • Establish and enforce reasonable financial policies and procedures that comply with University regulations and mitigate risk of misuse of School funds.
  • Implement and monitor financial controls, including oversight of all financial activity, and systems access and approvals, to ensure accountability and appropriate use of Law School funds.
  • Serve as a partner and resource to departments, ensure adequate training is available for budget managers and staff with financial responsibilities and/or oversight of funding units.
  • Manages completion of annual fiscal year-end close.
  • Manages overall Law School general ledger chart field maintenance.

Management:

  • Manages two Finance staff – Sr. Financial Administrator and Program Assistant 3. Regularly assess team responsibilities and provide career development opportunities to staff

Miscellaneous

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as accounting, business administration, finance, or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • 8 years financial, budgeting &/or preparing account reconciliations or financial statements along with financial analysis or other relevant experience.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in the use of spreadsheet, database and word processing software.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with FASB requirements.
