Overview
The Office for Research’s core mission is to advance Rutgers’s preeminence in research. The Office for Research (OFR or Research) provides essential services university-wide that support faculty research and scholarship. The OFR teams support identifying sponsored award funding opportunities, submission of grant proposals, post-award financial management, negotiation of contracts, research regulatory affairs, intellectual property and commercialization activities, core services, and animal care provided by the Comparative Medicine Resources organization.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Accounting Assistant I for the Office for Research. As part of the Office for Research, the Accounting Assistant I accurately process and stores various financial transactions, documents, and data.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Analyzes data and prepares financial reports, consistent with a basic understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the business unit and the tasks and responsibilities with respect to achieving business unit goals.
  • Works under general supervision, within established work parameters for the unit, with few direct instructions.
  • Carries out routine and non‐routine tasks with occasional review of work outputs by the supervisor.
  • Performs professional work requiring knowledge of general accounting principles and practices and the basic application and use of concepts, theories, and terminology of accounting.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all common business processes and procedures including university wide procurement, accounting, travel and expense and procedures governing department business and operations.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.  Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility .  Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine .  Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education/experience that demonstrates understanding of GAAP.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience in a finance/accounting function.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a non-profit or institution of higher education.
  • Experience in Oracle Financial Management System, Jaegger desired.
  • Experience with or knowledge of analytics software specifically Tableau highly desirable.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including experience with Pivot tables and VLookup.
Equipment Utilized
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications especially Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Hands‐on experience in use of enterprise or integrated financial accounting systems.
  • The University uses Microsoft applications and integrate accounting/financial accounting systems which facilitate communication and processing of transactions.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Office environment.
