University Relations is looking for a Visitor Experience Coordinator to join our Visitor Relations team, this position will focus on serving as the primary source of information and visitor services for Cornell University students, faculty, staff and visitor. This position is located on the Cornell campus which is located in Ithaca, N.Y.

What you will do:

Visitor Relations is the front door to exploring Cornell’s Ithaca campus, providing information and student-led tours to prospective students and families, alumni and Ithaca area visitors.

Reporting to the Director of Visitor Relations, the Visitor Experience Coordinator (VEC) is responsible for the following:

  • In collaboration with the Director and Senior Visitor Experience Coordinator (SVEC), hire, train and mentor approximately 80 student workers each year.
  • Direction provided by the Director and SVEC enables these students to become professional ambassadors of Cornell, providing key services, such as giving campus tours, staffing the Martin Y. Tang Welcome Center and responding to information requests via email/phone.
  • Determine staffing needs and prepare a complex weekly work schedule for the students.
  • Coordinate campus visits for prospective students and their families
  • Partner with various offices and individuals across campus to plan and coordinate student staff support for institutional events, such as student orientation, graduation and reunion.
  • Serve as Facilities and Telecom Coordinator for the Martin Y. Yang Welcome Center
  • Provide back-up administrative support to the office such as provide back-up coverage for the reception area and call center, and maintain the inventory of office supplies, information documents and area brochures.

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and perform direction and oversight in a timely manner. 

Some weekends and evenings required to support Visitor relations events and functions.

  • Ability to work in teams demonstrated by cooperation, respect, and flexibility with other coworkers.
  • A professional demeanor and excellent communication and customer service skills are required in dealing with clientele and student employees.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple, competing priorities while maintaining accuracy. Attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion.
  • Proficient with Mac, Filemaker, Excel: must be willing to learn new systems as necessary to carry out job responsibilities.

If you have any of the following, it’s a great bonus:

  • Experience in higher education, light research experience, understanding or some proficiency of social media, and have some technological background.
  • Experience working with students and/or providing customer service.
