Job Description:

Under general supervision, the Sr. Maintenance Mechanic I (Repair) performs various building maintenance and repair work, including planning and laying out jobs and estimating the cost of materials and staffing requirements for work to be performed. Work assignments may cross into all aspects of maintaining and repairing buildings, equipment, and grounds, rather than in one specific trade or maintenance skill. The incumbent's work assignments result from written or oral instructions. The incumbent may work independently, as part of a crew, or as the lead worker on specific projects and supervises several lower-level maintenance and labor employees.

The Sr. Maintenance Mechanic I (Repair) has responsibility for determining methods, techniques, materials, and/or devices best suited to complete projects. Requisitioning items, supplies, and equipment and maintaining inventory records are among additional responsibilities. The incumbent recommends new equipment and methods to improve work performance; and performs routine and emergency repairs and maintenance, both scheduled and in response to emergencies, as required. The supervisor may check overall work to ensure that trade standards are met upon completion. Does related work as required.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Repair is defined as a variety of trades, including but is not limited to plumbing, electricity, masonry, painting, and carpentry. The successful candidate is proficient in the skills and practices of various trades, with full knowledge of the principles, tools, and techniques used. The candidate must be able to work an after-hours shift to be determined at the time of hire.  The candidate must also have:

  • A high school or equivalency diploma and four years experience in trade; or
  • Graduation from a two year post high school or trade school course and two years experience in the trade; or
  • Seven years of work experience, five of which must have been in the trade.

Possession of a valid New York State Driver's License appropriate to the type of equipment operated.  Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation 1910.134 Respiratory Protection and will be required to meet federal, state and local standards with respect to health and safety.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  A CDL license and experience operating large construction machineries such as Backhoe, Skid steer, and Excavators strongly preferred.

Additional Information:

SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $55,823 plus excellent benefits.
