The Political Science and History Instructor position is a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position with an anticipated start date of August 2022. The successful candidate will teach a broad range of courses from political science and international relations to American and European history as assigned. This position requires effective teaching and advising of diverse students, excellent oral and written communication skills, and commitment to the comprehensive state college mission. The instructor will prepare course plans and materials, effectively deliver subject matter content, monitor student attendance and progress, participate on departmental and College committees, support activities that foster retention, participate in the selection of textbooks, assess student learning outcomes, and take part in other service and professional development activities as appropriate. Multiple campus, day, evening, and distance learning teaching assignments are possible. This position reports to the Department Head, Humanities and Social Sciences.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree in political science or a master's degree in a related field and 18 graduate semester credit hours in political science. The successful candidate will be expected to obtain the necessary credentials to be qualified to teach history within three years of the start date if he or she does not possess those credentials upon hire. Successful results of a criminal background check are required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer graduation from an accredited institution with a PhD in history or political science and experience teaching distance learning courses.
$37,750 - $43,750 for a 9-month contract with a master’s degree.
$42,500 - $48,500 for a 9-month contract with a doctoral degree.

Faculty members hired with less than three years of related experience shall be placed on the salary schedule as follows:

- Bachelor's or Less - $35,000
- Master's - $37,750
- Master's Plus - $39,500
- Doctorate - $42,500
All degree classification levels add the appropriate dollars (up to $6,000) for years of credited experience to the annual salary figures above to determine entry salary.
