A postdoctoral position is available in the Emory Skull base Tumor immunology Laboratory, led by Dr. Tomas Garzon-Muvdi.
The Emory Skull Base Tumor Immunotherapy Laboratory seeks ways to harness the power of the immune system to mount an antitumor immune response against skull base tumors. They focus on improving antigen presentation to increase the immune reaction against these tumors
The group is currently recruiting a post-doctoral scientist with interest in these objectives:
1) Immune-competent brain tumor models and immune therapy (in vitro and in vivo models).
2) T-cell biology.
3) Immunology, particularly in the regulation of myeloid cells.
The specific project(s) the successful applicant will be working on involves a combination of the above features, i.e. evaluating the differences in non-coding RNA expression in glioblastoma patient immune cells, then targeting selected immune-modulating non-coding RNAs, in vitro and in vivo.
The applicant will have completed a PhD in neuroscience, immunology, genetics, or related areas. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in small animal survival surgery including intracerebral injections and flow cytometry. Background in molecular biology is preferred.
The successful applicant will be given sufficient research support to ensure success, commensurate with needs detailed in a submitted budget. It is expected that the postdoctoral fellow will develop grant applications The career development of the successful applicant will be a priority of the group.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
