Job Summary

Interface with participants in the online computer lab setting providing technical support and assistance. This is a part-time position and requires working for SLCC online. This position is the first point of contact for participants seeking technical assistance in the Web Development courses. Additional job assignments may be at various campuses.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Assist teacher and students to access programs, including Canvas.
Troubleshoot student questions including computer related issues (i.e., joining online class, accessing/downloading programs).
Monitor online chats to actively assist students and teacher in the learning environment.
Maintain up to date attendance records and report to program coordinator.
Proof student developed websites and offer suggestions and corrections.
Respond to students’ inquiries/questions via Canvas email.
Willingness to work with students outside of class time.
Report to teacher any student issues that need to be addressed.
Report to program coordinator any course issues or updates.
Other duties assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Python and other programming languages.
Knowledge of Windows and Mac Operating Systems.
Spanish speaking.

Minimum Qualifications

1-3 years full time paid experience in a computer-related or customer service-related position; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have a vehicle and valid driver’s license to get to multiple campus/computer locations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of network technology and Web Development courses including HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, WordPress, Photoshop, etc.
Knowledge of GitHub, FileZilla, Visual Studio.
Knowledge of Canvas.
Knowledge of Internet applications.
Knowledge of printing.
Knowledge of desktop environments.
Ability to learn and follow College policies and procedures.
Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to work in a team setting.
Ability to represent the Division and College in a professional manner.
Ability to trouble-shoot basic hardware applications.
Ability to record required statistical information for reporting purposes.
Excellent computer skills, proficient with PC.
Excellent customer service skills.
Excellent internet, MS Windows & Mac operating systems, Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills.
Ability to establish rapport with a diverse academic, race, age, socio-economic status.

Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Provide support and tutoring services to participants individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow-up with learning activities or the use of computer software or hardware in the computer lab.
Assist participants in the use of technology to complete projects, including online research, document editing (formatting, spell check, etc.).
Be familiar with Zoom and other online teaching modalities.
Be present, visible, and available to participants requiring technical assistance Monitor activities and behavior of participants in the lab to ensure the physical and environmental safekeeping of students and lab equipment.
Attend training workshops as requested by supervisor in order to learn the type of support participants require.
Perform basic computer troubleshooting, including course specific software and printer maintenance and report issues to supervisor.
Maintain a clean, quiet work area.
