Organizational Unit Overview
The Division of Research, Economic Development and Engagement (REDE) is responsible for research policy and integrity, research administration and contract negotiations across ECU and leads economic and community engagement initiatives including partnerships with public sector agencies, industry, military, and other organizations in pursuit of scholarly activities, economic development and community engagement. The division directs new intellectual enterprises, including technology transfer. REDE is responsible for the following units under its umbrella: Office of Community Engagement & Research, Office of Continuing and Professional Education, Office of Human Subjects Protections, Office of Innovation & New Ventures, Office of Licensing & Commercialization, Office of National Security & Industry Initiatives, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, Office of Research Administration, Office of Research Development, Office of Research Integrity & Compliance, Office of Undergraduate Research, and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
The Office of Continuing & Professional Education (CPE), a unit within the Division of Research, Economic Development and Engagement, builds bridges between East Carolina University and the public by providing access to non-curricular professional development resources that engage, educate, and expand learning opportunities. The focus of the Office is to provide high quality non-credit professional development to business, industry, the military, public sector organizations, and other entities for developing a suite of offerings that advance regional transformation and economic development opportunities in eastern North Carolina and other regions.
Job Duties
This position works in the Continuing and Professional Education unit of REDE and reports directly to the director for Continuing and Professional Education. The primary responsibility of this position is day-to-day administrative support for both Continuing Professional Education (CPE) and Lifelong Learning Program (LLP). This position is the initial contact for all people calling or visiting staff in CPE and LLP which requires a high level of professionalism and knowledge regarding the programs, services, and policies and procedures within the programs. This individual must have the ability to apply this knowledge in the performance of daily/routine duties and be able to interpret and explain information to internal and external stakeholders in a professional manner. Duties for this position will include, but not be limited to: answering phones, processing participant registrations, processing daily payment logs, maintaining inventory, preparing routine reports, purchasing, travel coordination and reimbursements, contract preparation for undergraduate/graduate students and EPAFs, calendar management, meeting and/or event scheduling, assisting staff with CPE and LLP events, as well as other general administrative support such as distributing mail, escorting visitors, photocopying, filing and organizing as needed. Additional responsibilities include working occasional evenings and weekends, lifting up to 20 pounds, providing excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to work independently with interruptions and the ability to handle multiple tasks with close attention to accuracy and detail. Excellent organizational skills are critical for this role.
Minimum Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Bachelor’s degree and at least one year experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
