Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Division of Chemical & Biological Sciences at Ames Laboratory, a Department of Energy National Laboratory affiliated with Iowa State University, is seeking a postdoctoral associate with a background in materials research. The chosen candidate will join a large multidisciplinary team consisting of researchers from both the Ames Laboratory, as well as other national laboratories and universities. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting investigations of the interaction of aptamers with sensors on a surface and means of improving surface responses.
The candidate will be developing sensors for the detection of small and large molecules in the rhizosphere that are involved in communication between organisms in the soil.
The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and collaborate with a team.
(To meet the requirements of the Department of Energy's COVID-19 Workplace Safety Plan, Ames Laboratory is implementing a vaccine attestation program when the community level is medium or high. When the community level is medium or high, upon hire, all new employees must attest to their COVID-19 vaccination status. When community levels are medium or high, those who are not fully vaccinated or who decline to report their status will undergo recurring COVID-19 testing. The Lab’s COVID Recovery team will monitor the COVID-19 community status level on a weekly basis and will communicate that status. )
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. must be completed prior to start date.
Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, materials science, or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in materials research such as chemical functionalization of nanoporous surfaces
Experience in surface properties and interfacial properties of materials
Experience in molecular biology
