The Martinez Laboratory at Emory University seeks a postdoctoral scientist to perform time series analysis, statistical modeling, and network analysis relating to biological rhythms (i.e., circadian and seasonal cycles) in physiology and evolutionary immunology. This position has the option of being remote, in-person, or hybrid.


Candidates must be trained in time series analysis and bioinformatics in R. They must have a working biological knowledge in areas of Chronobiology, Immunology, Population ecology, or Infectious Disease Ecology. Essential duties include data integration and management, time series analysis, programming in R, aiding in writing manuscripts and reports, helping coordinate an international group of collaborators, and maintaining institutional IRB.

We seek a candidate who is highly organized and enthusiastic about working at the interface of chronobiology and evolutionary immunology.


Under general supervision of the PI, performs a variety of defined analyses and research tasks.

Participates in design of: statistical analyses and frameworks, computational protocols, and computational pipeline execution (as overseen by the principal investigator).

Participates in project maintenance activities such as maintaining a digital repository, IRB logistics, and helping coordinate and international group of researchers.

Maintains a lab notebook and protocols and code for reproducibility.

Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.

Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.


JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.




PhD in Ecology and Evolution, Computational Biology, Applied Mathematics, Immunology, Chronobiology, or a closely related field.

Demonstrated ability to perform time series analysis and maintain large datasets

Training in Ecology and Evolution, Immunology, Disease Ecology, or Chronobiology is highly desired, but not required

Ability to maintain effective working relationships in a diverse laboratory environment

Strong organizational and time management skills

Excellent data visualization skills

Experience working with “big data” is desired


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
