Anticipated Start Date: Spring 2022

Position Summary:

The web designer/developer combines contemporary software tools and methods to plan, implement and maintain the Tunxis Community College website and associated portals. This entails liaising with various client groups; soliciting/analyzing/responding to user needs and feedback; framing the underlying file/data structure of the website; managing the website’s content; creating W3C standards-based HTML5 and CSS, and developing using WordPress, PHP, MySQL, Javascript, and jQuery.

Incumbents must possess a proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a Web Design or a relevant field and one to four years of experience in website development and database management.

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:

  • Sound understanding of the modern web environment, including basic understanding of the LAMP environment; producing and optimizing web graphics; creating HTML5/CSS designs complying with contemporary responsive, mobile-first standards; conforming to specific accessibility guidelines, and developing and using object-oriented programming techniques.
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization, web analytics, search analytics, social media, email marketing, and rich media development.
  • Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and building accessible websites.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with web design, animation, multimedia design, content management, editing for video and audio, databases, webpage scripting, programming, digital imaging, and web development
  • Organizing information and writing and editing webpage content
  • Designing webpage layouts and Photoshop
  • Working knowledge of WordPress

Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the e Director of Marketing and Public Relations, the incumbent is r is accountable for assuring that the college’s website meets users' – both internal and external – needs. This is achieved through:

1. Managing the routine technical, creative, and administrative business of running the TXCC website’s back and front-ends

2. Implementing website architecture and graphic web page designs and templates

3. Applying and maintaining accessibility standards to the website 4. Assisting in the assessment of website efficacy

In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the position is required to carry out the essential duties of Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned and elected committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events. The incumbent is required to maintain currency in the position’s required fields of professional expertise and competencies. The incumbent is required to maintain complete confidentiality of student records and other materials of a confidential nature.

Starting Salary:

$57,604 approximate annual* plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits. Salary Range for this level is $57,604-$104,581. (*New hires to State employment start at minimum of salary range).
