Hartnell College is the largest institution of higher education in the Salinas Valley.

At Hartnell College, we are dedicated to providing the tools, programs and instruction critical for student success. Our leadership continually innovates new ways to serve the needs of our region's diverse and growing population and ensure accessible higher education for all. Central to our mission are initiatives that help students overcome economic and social barriers so they can focus on their education.

The Hartnell Community College District comprises approximately 2,300 square miles, spanning from the coastal community of Moss Landing on the Monterey Bay through Salinas and south to the small agricultural communities of San Lucas and Bradley at the far end of the fertile Salinas Valley. Renowned internationally as the "Salad Bowl of the World," the region is primarily agricultural and has a population of approximately 245,000.

Hartnell's main campus is in west Salinas. The District has also established a career technical campus in east Salinas, and an Education Center in the south county's King City. With their most recent support of a 2016 bond measure the District has added outreach centers in the cities of Soledad and Castroville.

2021 Equity Champions of Higher Education for Excellence in Transfer for Latinx Students.

The organization of Campaign for College Opportunity honors the California Community Colleges and State Universities that are leading the state in conferring the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT), enrolling ADT earners on guaranteed pathways to a bachelor's degree, and intentionally working to support Latinx students on their path to a degree. As a result of the outstanding work in this area and the number of successful transfers completed by Latinx students Hartnell College is named a 2021 Equity Champion of Higher Education! Hartnell College is committed to diversity - in our student body, our faculty and our curriculum. We are an open-door institution that embraces the right of all people to have access to quality higher education in a safe environment that supports equity and inclusion.

Pathways with a Purpose: Innovative Partnership with CSU Monterey Bay.

Hartnell is nationally known for its innovative programs built on partnerships with business, industry, and education leaders. Among them are its Computer Science in 3 program with California State University Monterey Bay, a three-year bachelor's degree program in Computer Science. Additionally, Hartnell also partners with CSUMB to offer a Teacher Preparation Pathway program, a 2+2 program that helps to address the teacher shortage in the area while bringing educational opportunity to District residents.

A Force for Regional Economic Development

A key player in elevating the economic profile of the region, Hartnell College has a long history of successful workforce development. A data-driven, relevant, and sophisticated Career Technical Education program has long-been the second rail in the Hartnell College Mission alongside academic degrees and transfer. Award winning programs have been developed and continue to evolve in critical service areas including Agriculture and Ag Technologies, Allied Health & Nursing, Hospitality, and newly emerging trades under Science/Technology/Engineering/Math (STEM).
