Position Summary

The School of Engineering's Mechanical Engineering Department is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to assist with a research project relevant to networks with sources and sinks, such as power systems, for example. The project focus is on how network elements may be connected with one another to increase the network chances to survive under multiple losses of its elements. Creative contribution to the project is expected, with an assistant working on developing new algorithms and computational code as well as writing papers.

From the mathematical perspective, skills of interest for this project are in graph theory and efficient graph search algorithms, sparse matrices, and operations with them. Other skills relevant to computationally efficient network representation and networks with dynamic topologies are also welcome. 

From the computational perspective, the code development will require the knowledge of Monte Carlo algorithms, parallel computing, and other relevant techniques to accelerate the problem solution. 

Programming skills (Fortran or C++ and/or Python) as well as oral and writing skills  are a must.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PHD in discipline by the start date of appointment

Preferred Qualifications:
