The Board of Directors of Mountain View Electric Association Inc. (MVEA) seeks a visionary leader with strong decision making and interpersonal skills to become the next CEO due to an upcoming retirement. The MVEA Board has retained NRECA Executive Search to facilitate the search process.
Incorporated in 1941, MVEA is a not-for-profit electric cooperative serving 52,000 members with more than 61,000 meters. The 5,000 square mile territory serves portions of eight counties along the Front Range and eastern plains of Colorado. With annual revenue of $125 million, net plant of $254 million, and over 6,000 miles of distribution line, the cooperative is financially strong and experiences tremendous growth of over 2,000 accounts per year due to the expanding communities outside Colorado Springs.
MVEA not only provides electric service to its members but has recently broken ground on a robust fiber optic network. The world-class smart grid infrastructure will add additional security and system reliability and will also facilitate gigabit-speed broadband service to 100% of the membership through a fiber to the home (FTTH) partnership with Conexon and their ISP, Connect.
With over 150 full time employees, MVEA operates with a vision of being conscientious stewards and adopters of beneficial new ideas and technologies, with clear and open communication; meeting competitive, political, and technological challenges of the industry.
The CEO of MVEA provides leadership, advice, and assistance to the Board of Directors concerning industry changes, strategic planning, business objectives, and policy needs that will support the Association’s mission, vision, and values while providing effective guidelines for business operations now and in the future. The CEO is responsible for creating an environment that encourages teambuilding and a cohesive work environment between the Board, management, and employees. Additionally, the CEO directs MVEA’s day-to-day operations and activities, ensuring that the business of the cooperative is conducted in accordance with MVEA’s bylaws, policies, strategic plans, and business objectives
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be a well-rounded leader who will focus on developing and executing the business strategy of the cooperative while focusing on the best interest of the members of MVEA. The CEO is responsible for ensuring the cooperative delivers high-quality reliable service to the membership while also ensuring MVEA has a strong presence and advocacy in the communities it serves.

Experience and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; an advanced degree such as an MBA, is a plus
  • NRECA Management Internship Program (MIP) graduate is preferred
  • Education or Experience in Accounting & Finance, Engineering or Business is preferred
  • 2-5 years of progressively responsible leadership experience is required
  • At least 6 years of electric utility experience is preferred
  • CEO experience preferred but not required
  • Electric cooperative experience will set you apart from other candidates

The pay range for this position is between $275,000 and $350,000 annually. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Our Locations
MVEA has offices in Falcon, Limon and Monument, CO with the Falcon office having the largest number of employees. The CEO will work out of the Falcon office and must live on co-op lines within the service territory.
