Computational Biology Postdoctoral Researcher
What You Will Do
The Steadman Lab at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking an enthusiastic postdoctoral candidate in the area of computational biology. We investigate how the the environment influences the genome through epigenetic processes in a variety of systems including algae, bacteria, plants, and mammalian cell lines. The epigenomics team collectively develops and performs both wet-bench experiments and computational analyses: we are looking for a new team member to develop novel software pipelines for analyses of ‘omics data (genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics). The successful candidate will develop a comprehensive, novel computational toolkit to identify epigenetic machinery and predict epigenetic processes that govern important phenotypes. In addition to being motivated, versatile, and independent, we are seeking a candidate who will collaboratively contribute to a positive, diverse, and inclusive environment in the lab. This position is supported for two years (with a possible third year extension) with a competitive salary and excellent benefits.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
PhD in a STEM-related field with a focus in computational biology
Fluency in one or more coding languages (Python, R, mySQL, BASH, etc.)
Demonstrated experience utilizing and building computational workflows for NGS data
Familiarity with statistics and statistical learning
A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
Excellent written, graphical, and oral communication skills
Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively in a team
Education: All candidates must have completed their Ph.D. requirements by commencement of the appointment or must be within five years of Ph.D. completion. Candidates may also have previous experience, including postdoctoral experience. Previous experience in epigenetics and wet-bench techniques will be considered an advantage but is not essential.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with designing sequence analysis techniques
Experience analyzing RNA-seq and epigenomics data
Proficiency with popular data science libraries and package managers
Proficiency with NGS repositories
Understanding of molecular biology, genomics, or gene regulatory processes
Understanding of phylogenetics and evolution
Willingness and desire to learn wet-bench techniques and conduct, design, and oversee experiments
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.
COVID Vaccine :
The COVID vaccine is mandatory for all Laboratory employees, on-site contractors, and on-site subcontractors unless granted an accommodation under applicable state or federal law. This requirement will apply to those working on-site, those teleworking, and all new hires.
