Job Description Summary
The Grand Challenges Initiative at Chapman University seeks a temporary research assistant to carry out research on trends and best practices in postdoctoral training in STEM. The successful candidate will lead efforts to collect, analyze and summarize available postdoctoral training programs in STEM and the professional development opportunities that support those (and other) programs.  
Responsibilities
  • Research trends in postdoctoral training programs in STEM, collate results, and write summary report. 
  • Identify best practices in postdoctoral training from the peer-reviewed literature. 
  • Research available capacity for professional development of postdoctoral researchers in STEM with an eye to current gaps relative to best practices.
  • Develop survey of current postdoctoral fellowship programs professional development  approaches, including drafting of IRB application.  
  •  Writing forward facing blog posts. 
  •  Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in natural sciences or engineering or equivalent education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience summarizing research in written form
  • Writing skills to summarize research findings and integrate into scientific manuscripts or summary reports
  • Demonstrated experience collating and managing information in databases (e.g., Excel)
  • Strong computer skills in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation applications, preferably of Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Strong writing and editing skills to prepare and proofread clear, concise and grammatically correct business correspondence, reports and publications.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to interact and work collaboratively
  • Demonstrated effective communications and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse individuals and groups at all organizational levels, both within and outside of the university.
Desired Qualifications
  •  Experience writing copy in for marketing 
  •   Willingness to acquire new skills
