The Kansas Society of CPAs (KSCPA) is searching for its next CEO/President. Founded in 1932, KSCPA is the primary membership association for more than 2,400 certified public accountants (CPAs) and accounting and finance professionals in Kansas. The KSCPA is dedicated to supporting and developing its members while promoting the accounting profession. The KSCPA is an inclusive community that connects, innovates, advocates, and learns, supporting members' careers and the firms and companies they serve.
The KSCPA also runs The Educational Foundation of the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants, Inc., which funds educational programs that advance the accounting profession. Since 1963, the Educational Foundation has achieved its mission by awarding scholarships and grants to students and faculty.

The KSCPA is headquartered in Topeka, Kansas, with remote work capabilities. The CEO/President position leads a team of four professionals to accomplish the day-to-day responsibilities related to the strategic plan of the leadership.
Statewide and regional programs for advocacy and legislation, leadership, students, continuing professional education, networking, and communications encompass the primary activities of the KSCPA. The KSCPA collaborates with national and state CPA associations to advocate for and move the profession forward.
The CEO/President Role
Is Strategic. The CEO/President is responsible for creating and implementing the tactics associated with the strategic plan. S/he works closely with the Board to develop, oversee, monitor, and fulfill strategic priorities. S/he communicates the goals to the membership and KSCPA team and ensures that the activities of the KSCPA align with the vision, mission, and core values of the KSCPA.
Is Member-Focused. The CEO/President contributes to members' success by navigating changing member needs and the value proposition, cultivating the pipeline of future CPAs and accountants, and providing value and engagement for members at every career stage.
Is an Advocate. The CEO/President advocates for issues that impact the profession and KSCPA members. S/he is a champion for diversity, equity, access, and inclusion.
Is Collaborative. The CEO/President maintains positive relationships with the KSCPA team, members, and leaders. The CEO/President maintains effective relationships with external organizations, especially those critical to the KSCPA, i.e., KS Department of Revenue, KS Board of Accountancy, KS Colleges and Universities, Governor's Office, Legislators, American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), other State Societies, Kansas City Chapter of National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), Kansas City Chapter of Financial Executives International (FEI), and NASBA.
Is a Spokesperson. The CEO/President is the representative of the KSCPA and, as such, ensures that all products and services are appropriate and represent the high quality and professionalism of the CPA profession and maintains KSCPA's reputation as a well-respected organizational leader and ensures the KSCPA is positively positioned.
Is Business Savvy. The CEO/President can lead a business enterprise, is knowledgeable about technology advances, and is an idea generator. S/he delegates appropriately but can also fill a void, no matter the task. The CEO/President negotiates agreements, maintains positive working relationships, and oversees the work of outsourced service providers important to the KSCPA, including technology, governmental affairs, website, membership software application, and audiovisual services.
Is Emotionally Intelligent. The CEO/President has strong verbal and written communication skills and acts with integrity. S/he is responsive to concerns and utilizes objective judgment in dealing with issues that affect everyone involved with the association.
Is Solution Driven. Proactively identifies opportunities and challenges then proposes solutions. The CEO/President is engaged in the long-term success of the profession.
The CEO/President possess the following professional knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Professional experience as a leader in a senior management position, preferably in a nonprofit or association environment or an accounting/finance team.
- Knowledge of membership associations and a commitment to results with a successful track record of member engagement and leading through change.
- A Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is strongly preferred.
- A CPA is preferred, but not required. Certified Association Executive (CAE) certification is a plus.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Experience working in the legislative/advocacy environment.
- Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience with budgeting and financial management.
- Strong organizational management abilities and attention to detail.
- Creative, open-minded, and forward-thinking skills.
- Strong collaborative team building and strategic management skills to accomplish organizational goals.

Compensation and Benefits
KSCPA offers a comprehensive benefits package including competitive salary, health, dental, life, and disability insurance, paid holidays including Christmas Eve through New Year's Day off, paid time off, generous 401K matching, and flexible/remote work arrangements. The CEO/President works under a contract negotiated with the KSCPA executive committee.
