Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
A position for a postdoctoral research associate of the duration of one year, potentially extensible further, is available in the Center for Multiphase Flow Research and Education under the guidance of Profs. Rodney O. Fox and Alberto Passalacqua. The candidate's research activity consists of modeling polydisperse gas-liquid systems in bubble columns and stirred tank reactors, with heat and mass transfer due to boiling or chemical reactions.
The candidate will work in a stimulating multidisciplinary environment that deeply values the open sharing of ideas and expertise to succeed in the research project.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, with a focus on computational fluid dynamics.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing large-scale simulations on high-performance compute clusters, including operative knowledge of queue systems and remote post-processing.
- A strong background in multiphase fluid dynamics. Specifically, the candidate must know the theory of multiphase flow modeling with Euler-Euler models and have experience with their application to the simulation of devices of industrial relevance.
- A demonstrated ability to implement complex computational models using the OpenFOAM® CFD toolkit and C++. Having used OpenFOAM to perform computations without implementing models or only having implemented simple sub-models is not sufficient.
- Knowledge of meshing strategies and tools sufficient to create meshes in complex geometries and evaluate their quality.
- Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English.
- Ability to write reports and prepare presentations to communicate research results and progress to the project stakeholders effectively.
