Position Focus:

Performs and manages research projects involving cancer disease mouse models, as well as oversees a Biorepository in development for human research. Biorepository oversight will involve sending and receiving patient samples from multi-site research collaborators. Collaborates frequently with Post-Doctoral Associates, Researchers and PI. Will oversee multiple laboratory day to day operations such as the packaging and shipment of research items to and from the lab, manage the biological safety in the lab, and train new lab members. Manage the ordering of all lab supplies, interpret scientific data, and assist in developing protocols for new lab members. The candidate should be enthusiastic about learning new techniques, detail-oriented, and enjoy working with other lab members and assisting with other people’s experiments.


Essential Duties

1. Recommends the design and implementation of procedures and protocols under the direction of a higher-level authority. 2. Investigates, analyzes, and reaches preliminary scientific conclusions related to research planning 3. Ensures data results are compiled, analyzed, and presented properly. 4. Analyzes, develops and interprets scientific results. Maintains clear documentation of results. Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports. 5. Performs independent research and laboratory techniques and participates in experimental research planning. 6. Interacts with internal contacts including the PI, research assistants, graduate students, Radiation Safety and Biological Safety officers, and Animal Care personnel to discuss and evaluate research results and to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the laboratory. 7. Interacts with external contacts such as researchers at other institutions, staff at biotechnology and reagents companies to consult on research methods and to keep abreast of product information and developments. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and one year experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Skill/Ability 1:

Orders supplies, equipment, and apparatus for laboratory experiments. May perform other duties as assigned.


Required Skill/Ability 4:

Performing a variety of skilled animal care duties. Performing various procedures and skilled observation of animal conditions.


Required Skill/Ability 5:

Taking care of lab animals to help research work. Maintaining accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing. Strictly following all procedures necessary to maintain animal housing areas. Unpacking delivery boxes (reagents and supplies), sorting materials to their correct places, and Decontaminating work areas as designated.


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Experience in Human sample processing, organizing, and logging for downstream and large-scale assays and analysis. For cancer disease models, experience with BSL2 techniques experience is a plus.
