Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno, School of Medicine is recruiting for a Staff Research Associate 2 for the Microbiology and Immunology Department. *** This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. This position will develop and maintain fungal stocks and inventory records, review fungi yields to determine quality and quantity, research, design, plan and conduct experiments and techniques to optimize quality and quantity of yields, purify polysaccharides from fungal cells using column chromatography, review results, determine accuracy/match to prior chromatograms for that fungal genus, research and develop solutions to problems, perform immunoassays, review raw data against controls and determine output precision and accuracy, train and supervise students and more junior staff on experimental procedures and lab operations, monitor the operation and performance of high-pressure chromatography equipment and order repairs accordingly, forecast need for additional supplies/reagents, respond to emergency equipment alarms as needed and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the required area of specialization and one year of professional research experience either in the field or in a laboratory; OR one year of experience as a Staff Research Associate I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
