As an intern in the Electronic Warfare Systems group, you could…

 

Provide engineering analysis, electronic and mechanical integration, and hardware-in-the-loop testing of next-generation electronic warfare (EW) subsystems and components for Air Force and Navy electronic warfare systems. Key subsystems include software defined radios (SDRs), Radio Frequency (RF) sensors, transmit and receive antennas, high power RF amplifiers, electronic support measures receivers, and waveform generators.

 

Support test leads in the evaluation and operation of ground-based and/or aircraft-based Electronic Warfare (EW) systems both in the laboratory and off-site locations. Participate in all aspects of testing against RF threats, which includes pre-test planning and analysis, execution of testing, post-test analysis, and documentation and reporting. There will be opportunities to present your work through briefings to technical leaders and decision makers!

 

Perform threat vulnerability analysis and threat characterization in support of electronic warfare system development and operational use of electronic warfare platforms and systems.

 

Your main work location would be APL’s main campus in Laurel, MD, but you may need to travel to off-site government locations to support test events.


Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have one or more of the following…

  • Are working towards Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or other engineering fields
  • Can demonstrate successful problem solving in a technical area
  • Are familiar with programming languages and concepts
  • Are enthusiastic about working on hands-on projects
  • Are willing to learn about math, physics, and engineering concepts that are not often taught as a part of degree programs
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Note: When prompted to upload attachments, please include a copy of your college transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).

 

You’ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you…

  • Have experience with MATLAB, Python, C, or C++
  • Have prior experience in design/testing of FPGAs
  • Have prior experience with SDRs
  • Are able to obtain a government-issued Common Access Card (CAC)
  • Are willing travel to off-site government facilities for test events
  • Have an active security clearance

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. $21.90 Hourly

Maximum Rate

$46.45 Hourly
