Summary of Position

The Earth System Research Center is recruiting a postdoctoral associate to address gaps in the scientific understanding of shallow snowpacks and frozen ground with consideration of snow and vegetation interactions using remote sensing via unpiloted aerial vehicle (UAV) and satellite platforms. The position allows the right candidate considerable opportunities for growth, the flexibility to define and pursue new research, and the ability to engage with the broader snow community. The successful candidate will work with a team of engineers, snow scientists, and forest ecologists within the ESRC/EOS at the University of New Hampshire https://sites.usnh.edu/crhc/.

The postdoctoral researcher will work jointing with Dr. Jennifer Jacobs and her team. Jennifer.Jacobs@unh.edu

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

The candidate should have qualifications and interests in a combination of the following topics:
· Hydrology and snow hydrology
· Remote Sensing – both UAS and Satellite-based
· Big data analytics and machine learning

Additional Preferred Qualifications

The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to be part of a well-established interdisciplinary research group and take part field collection at sites that will be up to 1.5 months in duration. We seek a candidate with an understanding of one or more of the following: winter field-based experiments, analysis, and modeling. The researcher should plan to lead publication writing and development of grant proposals. The applicant does not need to have considerable expertise in UAVs and airborne sensors, though experience in related fields and instrumentation as well as the ability to pursue a FAA UAV flying license would be considered an asset.

· Scientific Programming (Python, R and Google Earth Engine)
· UAS experience
· GISQGIS or ArcPro experience
