Work Location- Main Campus-3600 N. Garfield, Midland, TX
Job Summary- The Clerk-Computer Lab & Office Support plays a vital role in assisting students with computer-based learning, overseeing the administration of tests, and ensuring proper procedures are followed. This position also provides a clean, quiet, and well-organized lab environment. A proactive and independent approach is required to maintain lab equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and promptly report malfunctions to the appropriate personnel. In addition to student support, the Clerk collaborates with the Health Sciences Division office, providing logistical and clerical support and contributes to smooth day-to-day operations. A solid commitment to dependability, adhering to established schedules, and following procedural guidelines is essential for success in this role.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent and one year of clerical and general office experience; or a minimum of 30 college credit hours
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with students, staff, and faculty
- Strong attention to detail, particularly in managing technical tasks and maintaining accurate records
Preferred Qualifications
- Some college coursework or a college degree preferred
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Experience in test proctoring
Essential Functions
- Software Assistance: Provide appropriate software to students for completing assigned computer-assisted instructional programs
- Technical Support: Install and maintain computer programs with approval from the Information Technology department. Identify and resolve technical issues promptly
- Student Support: Respond promptly and helpfully to questions from students and faculty, demonstrating patience with those lacking computing skills or experiencing difficulties
- Lab Monitoring: Monitor students during written and computer testing, maintaining a conducive environment for testing
- Minor Maintenance: Perform minor maintenance on computer hardware and contact appropriate personnel for major repairs
- Help Resources: Stay updated with campus technology changes and be familiar with available help resources
- Database Management: Maintain an up-to-date database of computer inventory and software for the Health Science and Vocational Nursing labs, as well as Health Science faculty and staff offices
- Lab Maintenance: Clean computer screens and desks and ensure the lab is organized. Keep records of computer lab usage
- Scheduling: Schedule lab usage and maintain an appointment calendar
- Policy Enforcement: Enforce lab policies and procedures, including becoming a certified proctor for Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) testing
- Document Assistance: Assist the division office and faculty with document creation, revisions, and filing using Microsoft Office
- Applicant Support: Help maintain student applicant files for the Associate Degree Nursing program
- Event Assistance: Assist the Division Secretary in planning events such as pinning ceremonies, advisory meetings, luncheons, and more
- Secretarial Assistance: Support the division secretary in preparing prospective student files and organizing advisory committee meetings. Help maintain the division’s equipment inventory
- Reception: Answer phones, greet, and direct visitors and students
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information regarding students, faculty, and staff
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- The person in this position needs to move to other locations on campus occasionally
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
- Use of manual dexterity
- The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds
- Duties indoors and some outdoors
- Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events
Security Sensitivity- All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.
Min Salary- $19.29 per hour
Max Salary- $19.58 per hour
Pay Statement- Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
