Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The University of Maryland Department of Transportation Services seeks a dynamic individual who can take initiative, analyze problems, research, and articulate solutions as a Business Operations Coordinator.

The Business Operations Coordinator position, reporting to the Assistant Director of Business Operations, is responsible for the coordination of the department’s accounting and business office management functions. This role involves handling general accounting, procurement, clerical, and auditing tasks. This position’s responsibilities are the following:

  • Serve as Procurement Administrator.
  • Process standard financial transactions for the Department of Transportation Services (DOTS).
  • Provides primary accounting support services for complex accounts that require regular reports, reconciliation, and detailed research to resolve discrepancies.
  • Manages and analyzes various ledger accounts, such as reviewing transactions, verifying amounts, comparing and reconciling balances, and interpreting trends or deviations from accounting standards.
  • Reviews/analyzes posted transactions to ensure integrity and compliance with university policies, internal controls, and departmental standards.
  • Assists with budget research and compilation of annual reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Experience:
  • 3 years of experience in finance, business, accounting, or related fields.
  • Experience with high-dollar procurement administration, disbursements, financial statement reporting/analysis, account reconciliations, and/or audits.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Ability and willingness to take initiative, analyze problems, research, and articulate solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, working on multiple projects with overlapping deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet expected deadlines and schedules.
  • Intermediary proficiency with MS Office software, with emphasis in Excel, including spreadsheet creation.
  • Operation of office equipment, personal computers, and operational/financial software.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with a concentration in accounting, finance or business management or related field.
  • Strong proven organizational skills.
  • Strong, proven problem-solving skills.
  • Effective, proven oral and written communication skills. Experience in accounting/auditing functions.
  • Experience in Higher Education.
  • Familiarity with UMD systems.

Additional Information:

Salary range is $56,638-$70,798.
