Job Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Program in Science, Technology, and Society, to conduct research in support of the Artificial Intimacy research project. The overarching research question is “Who do we become when we talk to machines?” This will include qualitative interviewing and field observation with multiple respondents in multiple settings. Responsibilities include designing and conducting data collection through interviews and observations and discussion with the principal investigator (PI) to further the analysis of these materials.  The work will also include reading and summarizing relevant literature in furtherance of the analysis; conducting qualitative research in support of the Artificial Intelligence and Self research project; collecting and analyzing data through interviews, observations, and other qualitative techniques; discussions to enrich analysis to address insights and findings of the research; coordinating with external AI development organizations that may inform the project such as OpenAI, Meta, and Anthropic; working with the PI to disseminate research findings through publications and presentations; and performing duties as needed. 

Job Requirements:

 REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in science, technology, and society or a related field; two years of experience; excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team and collaborate effectively with colleagues; strong writing skills and the ability to communicate complex insights for publication; discretion and judgment with confidential information/issues; and ability to travel to and from interview locations as well as public events to discuss and present research.  PREFERRED:  master’s degree in a field related to science, technology, and society.  Job #24225

Annual salary: $60,000 - 70,000

This is a two-year term appointment.
