Stewardship Officer

Job Description

STEWARDSHIP OFFICER, Resource Development-Donor Engagement and Stewardship, to work closely with the director of donor engagement and stewardship on developing and implementing strategies, initiatives, and communications that help to secure and strengthen the long-term relationship between donors, prospects, and the Institute.  Will collaborate closely with staff and frontline fundraisers within Resource Development, colleagues throughout the five schools and the Schwarzman College of Computing, and MIT faculty and graduate students to plan, coordinate, and implement a thoughtful and creative stewardship program responsive to the needs of MIT frontline fundraisers, donors, and prospects from the point of cultivation through the lifecycles of the funds and lifespans of their donors.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree; three years’ related experience in stewardship/donor relations, preferably within an academic setting; excellent organizational, analytical, project management, problem-solving, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; familiarity with development writing and executive style/tone; discretion and sound independent judgment with confidential information; solid computer skills, including proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and support for MIT’s diversity, equity, and inclusion priorities.  Must be able to manage multiple projects accurately and within deadline; analyze, synthesize, and present information clearly; and collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.  Seek a flexible self-starter who is open to new ideas and able to function independently in a dynamic, deadline-driven, team-oriented environment.  PREFERRED:  understanding of design and digital communications; experience using the Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Adobe InDesign to layout reports); facility with fundraising databases, e.g., Advance and FileMaker; familiarity with MIT and alignment with its mission; and experience and interest in higher education and/or advancement.  Job #24229-7

This is a hybrid position with a combination of on-campus and remote work. 

Must be willing and able to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
