Academic Advisor, Neuroscience and Behavior Program

Job Description

This academic advisor will work closely with primary faculty and staff affiliated with the Neuroscience and Behavior major, and take a central role in academic advising for Neuroscience and Behavior students within the College of Science. Specific advising numbers will be determined year to year based on current enrollment, but this role can anticipate supporting approximately 200-250 students annually through individual meetings, small group sessions, and other encounters both formal and informal.

This position will contribute to broader programmatic goals, including but not limited to participation in relevant program meetings, committee work, relationship and community building with relevant campus units and alumni networks, and other special projects as determined to be relevant and equitable.

This is a limited term position with a three year term.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (5 years) or advanced certification beyond Bachelor’s

  • Experience: At least 3 years of academic advising or counseling at the university level and education administration experience.

  • Skills:
    • Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills,
    • Ability to work independently
    • Familiarity with office software applications including database management, spreadsheets and web development software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree
  • Background in academic advising and/or experience advising or teaching undergraduate students. Prior training involving or experience in/commitment to engagement of students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to AAC&U’s “Core Values” of Inclusive Excellence – “Diversity”, “Inclusion”, “Equity”, and “Equity-Mindedness”.
  • Commitment to or involvement in national or international advising or teaching organizations (i.e. commitment to continued professional development).
  • Familiarity with internal Notre Dame systems.
