Job Summary
:

This person will manage all day-to-day Human Resource functions for a staff of 400. This is the largest, most diverse St. Vincent de Paul in the world. SVdP provides a wide range of services to the community, ranging from thrift stores to urban farms to medical and dental clinics, and much more. This position is an upward mobility position and should be considered eligible to assume the position of Director of Human Resources when the current incumbent Director vacates the position. The position may manage several direct reports. This position is a leading HR leadership position in the community. Prior experience in Human Resources is an essential prerequisite.

Staffing
:

  • Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with departmental managers to develop skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Supervises the Society job posting process and ensures department leaders submission of open requisitions to CFO for approval.

 


  • Ensures Departmental job descriptions are accurate and updated and reflect the duties and expectations of each position and employee within the organization.

Compensation:

  • Assists the Director in analyzing compensation and benefit trends; researches and recommends competitive base and incentive programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
  • Provides feedback and direction to Managers ensuring authorized legal compensation practices for all employees is adhered to in accordance with Policy.
  • Acumen in compensation practices to include performance evaluations, surveys, and preparation of analytics.
  • Oversees the employee benefit program.

 


Performance Management
:

  • Work in partnership with Department Leaders to ensure any disciplinary actions are detailed, complete, and in accordance with the SVdP Employee Handbook of policies and procedures.
  • Oversees employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Administers the yearly performance evaluation program is accomplished on a yearly basis for all employees.
  • Coaches members of the management team in conducting difficult conversations.
 

Training
:
  • Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
  • Responsible for the coordination, scheduling, materials, and overall administration of all staff training.
  • Work in partnership with direct reports to ensure completed trainings are input into ADP WorkForce Now and staff credentials are up to date. Alert Managers of any upcoming trainings that need recertification.

 


Organization Policy and Compliance
:
  • Responsible for overseeing adherence to the SVdP Employee Handbook of policies and procedures for the entire SVdP organization. Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices. Reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance, and updates SVdP Employee Handbook when necessary.
  • Ensures report requirements mandated by federal agencies are accurately completed and submitted according to respective submission dates.
  • Reviews and responds to unemployment claims by coaching management with accurate appropriate documentation, reviews monthly unemployment statements.
  • Prepares quarterly reports on all terminations, and outcomes of cases determined by AZDES.
 

Safety:
  • Work in partnership with the Director of Safety and HR Staff to manage the organization wide mission of the workplace Safety Program
  • Ensures all workplace injuries are documented by appropriate SVdP Incident Report, and an Employer’s Report of Injury is filed with the Industrial Commission and CopperPoint, SVdP’s insurance provider.
  • Coordinates workers' compensation claims with the third-party administrator and Investigates circumstances surrounding the incident as needed.
  • Act as point of contact for injured employees with First Care Provider (MBI), SVdP’s to ensure all injured workers and work-related injury claims are completed managed with accuracy.
 

Offsite and Interdepartmental Liaison:
  • Regularly visit thrift stores, dining rooms and SVdP locations outside of the 420 W. Watkins campus to inspect safety measures are being followed, answer employee questions and act as a liaison between “main campus” and remote locations.
  • Attend the weekly Operations Meeting to provide HR department updates to the SVdP Operations team. Report pertinent SVdP updates to HR department so the team is current on SVdP projects, events, and happenings.
 

Management of 
HR Office:
  • Assists the Director by providing support and guidance to HR Staff member, and management overall with specialized, and sensitive guidance as issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Oversee and manage the HR Staff members. Cross train to act as backup to these positions in incumbent’s absence.
  • Performs any other reasonable duties as assigned by Director of Human Resources.
  • Participate in and serve as a model for SVdP’s Culture of Philanthropy, and ensure SVdP volunteers feel welcomed and appreciated *
  • Volunteer engagement and appreciation, as well as Culture of Philanthropy participation are part of all job descriptions at SVdP, and a very important part of the organizational culture and values.

Education and Experience
:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field and/or equivalent experience is required.
  • Minimum requirement of five years of related Human Resource department experience is preferred with Supervisory experience.
  • PHR or SPHR professional designation is preferred.

 


Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Able to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach and lift up to 20 pounds are general requirements for this position
