Senior Research Associate: Virtues in Vocations

Job Description

This position will be a leader in the Center for Social Concern’s “Integrating Virtue Together” program. Responsible for designing, delivering and evaluating an annual workshop for faculty from across the country who are committed to cultivating virtues through their courses. This ideal candidate will be an expert in this field and will provide high-touch support and guidance for faculty as they redesign their courses based on the program’s teachings. The responsibilities for this position include the following.

Writing and Editing:
Work as an editor for our magazine, Virtues & Vocations: Higher Education for Human Flourishing. This includes content editing and copyediting. Will also write 1-2 articles a month for our newsletter.

Program Design and Delivery:
 Hold a leadership role in the “Integrating Virtue Together” program through designing, delivering and evaluating our annual workshop for faculty across the country. In addition to helping to lead the workshop, this person will provide high touch support and mentoring for faculty on their course redesign. Facilitate connections, meetings, and workshops with Notre Dame faculty, particulrly those from professional schools, who are interested in making virtue more central in their courses and programs. Connect current research within the programmatic development of virtue and justice. Strengthen the connection between Virtues & Vocations and other areas of justice education and research at the CSC. Incorporate connections int othe design and development of the “Integrating Virtue Together” program.

Program Development:
Identify and apply for grants to support ongoing work on character education. Curate monthly webinars. Help design and develop content for annual conference. Identify and curate new opportunites for program growth. Research and publication in the area of character education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in related field required. Experience developing scholarly networks both nationally and internationally. 
  • Leadership in garnering and stewarding grants. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to organize and present research material to other professionals. 
  • Previous teaching and program development experience.
